**Disclaimer*** What may not work me me, may work for you! I’m just sharing my experiences with these products and what I think is better quality/value. Thanks!
So, the drugstore has some brilliant options out there that are amazing quality and have attractive prices.
Although.. sometimes you can pick up a fail.
And that’s why I’m here! I’ve tried so many different drugstore make-up items because I know most people buy from their local Superdrug/Boots so I’m here to present you with the fails!
But, just showing fails wouldn’t be that useful, so I’ve added my favourite alternative products that combats those awful fails! So you don’t have to experience shoddy products I have.
First up we have Collection’s ‘Illuminating Touch’ foundation in Porcelain. The packaging is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a rather matte bottle that’s glass and it also has a pump.
Straight off the bat, this is not porcelain whatsoever, it’s a light orange, hot mess.
This foundation was £4 when I bought it on offer (usual price 6 pounds)
So luckily, it’s not that big of a loss, but you don’t exactly wanna be throwing your money down the drain, especially when you can’t return makeup products.
It goes on rather cakey and weirdly sticky aswell, it has a weird texture. I do confirm that it does illuminate though, it does that well.
Onto a great foundation!
This has been raved about for years, it’s Rimmel Match Perfection of course. I have it in the shade porcelain and I’m in love with it.
I’m probably onto my 10th bottle honestly, the texture and formula is beautiful. Rimmel have a wide shade variety and a whole lot of different foundations.
This foundation is usually around 5/6 pounds and is sold practically everywhere.
The packaging is a sturdy glass bottle with a pump and a chic design.
On the left is Collection, On the right is Rimmel.
Buy Rimmel’s foundation here
Look at the difference, both supposedly ‘porcelain’. What do you think?
Rimmels texture is definitely lighter but with great coverage and a nice texture and I think you can see this on the picture above.
Next up, highlighters!
So about 2 weeks ago I was in need of a new highlight because my MUA one had gone bad, so I thought I’d try a new highlighter and explore.
Freedom is a relatively new brand, so I thought I’d sample their highlighters. Keep in mind, MUA and Freedom’s highlights are both 3 pounds.
I picked up their Pro Highlight in ‘Ambient’
Stunning packaging for drugstore right? Looking relatively good quality.
Only thing is , I could literally use this as a face powder, there’s little to no sheen, no glitter. It’s rather matte and it’s the colour of my face, This would work on dark skin tones but I don’t really see it working on anyone else
Alternatively this MUA highlighter in ‘Iridescent Gold’.. is gorgeous.
I love this SO much. It works on a all skin, looks beautiful and as intense as you want it too. It has the quality of a high-end highlighter for sure.
Freedom highlight on the left, MUA highlight on the right.
Look at the difference, MUA’s actually looks like a highlight and performs as one.
10/10 for me. The crazy thing is, they’re both 3 pounds!
Next up is liquid concealer, a necessity in everyones makeup bag.
I purchased the ‘Maybelline Superstay Concealer’ thinking it was gonna be amazing (as it was around 7/8 pounds which is pretty high for drugstore) , and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed in my life.
I got it in the shade ‘Light’ and just like the Collection foundation. It was orange. I was so unbelievably orange when I put this on my face, my mum genuinely couldn’t stop laughing at me!
Not only was it orange, but it was the most cakey horrible feeling you could ever imagine. I washed it off after 5 minutes.
Onto my holy grail drugstore concealer, AND NO! It isn’t the Collection one that everyone is obsessed over (I hate that one honestly)
It is infact the Seventeen Stay Time 18 hour Concealer.
This concealer is flawless, it covers my spots well and has a natural texture. I have it in Extra light and it’s the perfect match for my skin tone and colour.
The packaging isn’t anything phenomenal but it does the job.
Here’s a side by side swatching of the Maybelline and the Seventeen concealers.
Keep in mind, Maybellines concealer is considered to be ‘light’.
I love Maybelline, I think they have amazing products but this was a let-down for me!
What’s been your recent fail purchase, and why? Let me know in the comments so we can all know to stay away from those products!
